This package is suitable for dogs who have substantial matting or rescue dogs who require a shorter cut. We will ensure to take our time to remove matts to ensure your dog feels fresh and comfortable. By using Barking Mad Dog Grooming, you are agreeing to our Matting Policy. If your dog is nervous or aggressive we will aim to make their experience as comforting as possible. Please make us aware of these behaviours when booking.

In some cases, 2 groomers may be required to keep your dog safe and happy during the process. This will incur an additional cost of £20.

Our Matting Policy

We always endeavour to meet the grooming desires of our customers, however this is not always achievable, depending on the condition of the dog's coat.

Severely matted dogs will be shaved off for their care and wellbeing. Should we be presented with a matted or neglected coat, if our opinion is that it will be kinder to shave the coat back completely, this will be done in compliance with The Animal Welfare Act 2006 ( Sec 5. – Animals are to be protected from pain, injury and suffering).

Dematting is not included in the price of a regular groom. There will be an extra charge at a minimum of £5 for the service due to time and extra wear and tear on equipment.

When a dog’s coat is matted, it may need to have a very short clip. This takes longer than a regular clip because the blades have to run below the matt very close to the skin. It may also cause irritation because the clipper blades can get very hot but we take regular breaks in order to let the blades cool to avoid burning your dog’s skin. It is also possible that we may uncover nicks, cuts or other potential problems which have been hidden by the matted hair.

When you use the services of Barking Mad Dog Grooming, you are agreeing to the following terms:

Barking Mad Dog Grooming cannot be held liable for any after-grooming effects of matt clipping procedures or problems uncovered on a badly matted, neglected coat.

These could include, but are not limited to, the following:

Itchiness, skin redness or self-inflicted irritations/abrasions from excessive rubbing.

Please be aware that there is a much higher risk that the dog’s skin could be nicked with the clippers as we have to position the blade underneath the matt in order to remove it.

Once your dog has been shaved, we can work together to agree a plan going forward, to ensure the matting does not happen again and place you on a different grooming package.

We highly recommend brushing your dog daily if they tend to become matted. This will help to avoid dematting with clippers.

The prices shown above are guide prices only. A full assessment of your dog’s coat and size will take place on your visit.

Dogs can be temperamental when it comes to nail clipping. Be aware we may not be able to complete the full set of nails if the dog becomes distressed at any point, for their own safety. Longer nails may need several sessions to shorten.

Injuries can occur when grooming live animals. We will treat your best friend with love and care at all points and will make you aware if an injury happens during the groom.

An extra charge will be incurred for heavy de-matting.
